SARAJEVO
The Bosniak member of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Presidency stressed on Tuesday that the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind a defeated 2016 coup attempt in Türkiye, must continue to be strongly condemned.
"The Turkish people and the state administration thwarted the coup attempt with a heroic resistance. The people placed full trust in President Recep Tayyip Erdogan," Denis Becirovic said on social media after visiting Türkiye's ambassador to Sarajevo, Emin Akseki, on the occasion of Türkiye's July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.
Becirovic added that the seizure of power through force is unacceptable in any democratic country.
He stressed that it remains vital to denounce FETO for attempting to topple Türkiye's democratically elected government, adding: "Our hope is that our brotherly Türkiye continues on its path as a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation. Bosnia and Herzegovina stands firmly against terrorism and all forms of violent extremism"
The defeated coup attempt, in which 252 people were killed and 2,734 wounded, was plotted and carried out by the terrorist group FETO.
