Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed Friday that a Russian offensive operation in the northeastern Sumy region has been fully thwarted, while urging partners to accelerate deliveries of air defense systems and missiles.
“I set out specific tasks to accelerate work with partners to ensure faster deliveries, and therefore more reliable coverage of critical infrastructure,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram, adding that Ukraine’s interceptor production is “delivering solid results” and training operators remains a priority.
He thanked Ukrainian units for precision strikes on Russian supply routes. “Particularly regarding Russian logistics and fuel infrastructure,” he noted.
Zelenskyy said Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that Russian forces near Sumy “lost offensive capability due to sustained losses,” though he told clashes continue along the border.
He added that Ukrainian forces are also actively countering Russian assault activity in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia.
The president said discussions also covered Ukraine’s weapons production, procurement, and partner support.
The Sumy region, bordering Russia, has faced repeated shelling and cross-border raids since the war began. Moscow has not commented on Kyiv’s claim about halting the offensive.
