The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is receiving electricity through a single external power line after a fire damaged the infrastructure linking the nuclear facility to a nearby thermal power plant, according to a statement on the plant’s Telegram channel.
It said the fire damaged a communication line between the outdoor switchgear of the thermal power plant and the nuclear facility, leading to the loss of power from the Ferrosplavnaya-1 transmission line.
As a result, the plant is now supplied with external electricity via the Dneprovskaya power transmission line.
Plant officials said external power supply to the Zaporizhzhia NPP has been maintained, while specialists are assessing the extent and precise location of the damage.
Repair and restoration work will begin once conditions allow, the statement added.
The plant emphasized that the situation is “under complete control,” claiming that radiation levels remain normal and consistent with natural background values, and safety limits and operating conditions for the reactor units have not been violated.
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, Europe’s largest nuclear facility, has repeatedly faced disruptions to external power supplies since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war.
Ukrainian authorities and international bodies have warned that reliance on limited power lines increases safety risks, as external electricity is essential for cooling systems and overall nuclear safety.
