Ukraine says 3 killed due to Russian strikes in Zaporizhzhia region

Governor claims Russia launched 405 strikes overnight on 10 settlements in southeastern region

ISTANBUL

Ukraine said on Monday that at least three people were killed in Russian strikes in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region.

Zaporizhzhia Governor Ivan Federov said the three victims were killed in strikes on the town of Stepnohirsk, about 32 kilometers (20 kilometers) south of the region’s administrative center.

Federov claimed Russia launched 405 strikes on 10 settlements in the region, and that there were reports of apartments, non-residential buildings, communication networks, and private houses being hit.

The statement comes as Kyiv claimed a day earlier that Russian and Ukrainian forces were clashing for the control of the village of Kamianske, about five kilometers (3.1 miles) south of Stepnohirsk.

“Kamianske is located approximately 25-27 kilometers from the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia. While enemy forces are present in the town, Ukrainian Defense Forces also maintain positions there—particularly on the northern and northeastern outskirts,” said Vladyslav Voloshyn, a Ukrainian military spokesman, according to state news agency Ukrinform.

Denying that Kamianske was fully under the control of Russian forces, Voloshyn said Ukrainian troops withdrew to the outskirts of the settlement following airstrikes and artillery.

Russian authorities did not immediately commented on the attack or Ukraine’s claims, though the region has been regularly hit by Russian airstrikes over the course of the Ukraine war, now in its fourth year.
