The ongoing US and Israeli attacks targeted a facility in Ardakan, Yazd province, that produces yellowcake, a concentrated uranium powder used in nuclear fuel, Iranian media reported on Friday.
Initial assessments suggest there was no release of radioactive materials outside the facility, Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization said, according to IRIB news agency.
There was “no risk to citizens or surrounding areas,” the organization said.
Hostilities in the region have escalated since Feb. 28, when the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran, killing more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, inflicting casualties and infrastructure damage while disrupting global markets and aviation.
