UAE calls for sustainable Gulf security beyond ceasefire amid regional escalation

Presidential adviser urges measures to curb nuclear, missile, drone threats in Arabian Gulf

ISTANBUL

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) called for long-term solutions to ensure sustainable security in the Gulf region, stressing that efforts should go beyond a simple ceasefire.

In a statement posted on the US social media platform X on Sunday, UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash said: “As we face the brutal Iranian aggression and discover our firm strength in steadfastness and resilience, our thinking does not stop at a ceasefire.

“Rather, it moves toward solutions that guarantee sustainable security in the Arabian Gulf, curb nuclear threats, missiles, drones, and the bullying of maritime straits.”

He added that it is “unreasonable for aggression to turn into a permanent state of threat.”

Regional escalation has continued since the United States and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, with reported casualties exceeding 1,340 people.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties, infrastructure damage and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
