UAE air defenses intercept missiles, drones launched from Iran

Defense Ministry says explosions heard result of interception operations

ISTANBUL

The United Arab Emirates said Sunday that air defense systems intercepted missile and uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks launched from Iran.

The Defense Ministry provided details on explosions heard in different parts of the country, saying its air defense systems intercepted ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones.

It added that the explosions were the result of interception operations carried out in the air.

Regional escalations have continued to rage since Israel and the US launched an offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,300 people to date, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure, while disrupting global markets and aviation.
