Pan-Islamic grouping to convene Monday in Doha following Israeli attack

Emergency Arab-Islamic summit to be preceded by preparatory ministerial meeting

ISTANBUL

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) announced Friday that an emergency Arab-Islamic summit will be held Monday in Qatar, preceded by a preparatory ministerial meeting Sunday to formulate a joint response to an Israeli attack on Doha.

“This Emergency Summit reaffirms Arab and Islamic solidarity with the State of Qatar, and aims to formulate a unified stance and joint action in response to this aggression, which constitutes a blatant violation of the State of Qatar’s sovereignty, the UN Charter, and international law, as well as a threat to regional security and stability,” it said.

Israeli warplanes launched an airstrike targeting Hamas’ leadership in the Qatari capital on Tuesday. Five Hamas members and a Qatari security official were killed in the attack. Israel claimed responsibility.

Qatar condemned the strike as “state terrorism,” vowing to preserve its right to respond. Hamas confirmed that its negotiating delegation, led by Khalil al-Hayya, survived, though several close associates were killed.

The attack came despite Qatar’s mediation role, alongside Egypt and the US, in indirect talks to secure a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal in the Gaza Strip.
