QALQILYA, Palestine / ISTANBUL
The Israeli army detained 16 Palestinian women in military raids in the West Bank city of Qalqilya on Wednesday, local sources said.
Most of the detained women “are wives of freed prisoners or detainees and mothers of killed Palestinians,” the sources told Anadolu.
According to the sources, Israeli forces raided and searched several homes in the city of Qalqilya and the towns of Azzun, Kafr Thulth and Sanniriya during their campaign.
Two women were later released after being questioned by Israeli forces, the sources said.
The Israeli army conducts near-daily raids into cities and towns across the West Bank, which Israel says are part of “security campaigns” targeting individuals it considers “wanted.”
At least 1,132 Palestinians have been killed and 11,700 others injured by the Israeli army and illegal settlers in the occupied West Bank since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, in addition to the detention of about 22,000 people, according to Palestinian figures.
In a landmark opinion in July 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
