ISTANBUL
Iraq’s General Company for Ports said Wednesday that it rescued more than 20 crew members from a foreign oil tanker that was attacked in regional waters, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
“Iraqi port crews managed to rescue the crew of a foreign oil tanker that was attacked in regional waters — more than 20 people,” said the company’s director, Farhan al-Fartousi.
Two oil tankers were reportedly attacked in regional waters near Iraq's Basra Port, according to local media, causing a large fire on one of the tankers.
Iraqi authorities have not released a statement on the matter, however.
