BERLIN
Germany on Friday welcomed the formation of a Palestinian committee to administer Gaza, pledging further support to improve humanitarian conditions and enable reconstruction.
In a statement on social media, the German Foreign Ministry said Berlin supports establishing the Palestinian National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, as outlined in US President Donald Trump's 20-point ceasefire plan.
"We welcome the US announcement of Phase II of the 20-point plan and the formation of a Palestinian National Committee for the Administration of Gaza with support from the Palestinian Authority," the ministry said.
"These structures create a promising foundation for an improved humanitarian situation and the reconstruction of Gaza. We will continue to support the path towards a lasting political solution to the conflict," it added.
The committee is part of a plan proposed by US President Donald Trump to administer Gaza following Israel's nearly two-year brutal military campaign in the territory. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since Oct. 10, 2025.
US envoy Steve Witkoff announced on Wednesday the launch of phase two of President Trump’s peace plan, moving from a ceasefire in Gaza to demilitarization, technocratic governance, and reconstruction.
The committee, chaired by Ali Shaath, a former Palestinian deputy planning minister, held its first meeting on Friday in Cairo.
