Fire erupts at Syria-Jordan border crossing from missile debris

Blaze in Nassib free zone damages vehicles as civil defense teams work to contain flames, SANA reports

ISTANBUL

A fire broke out Thursday in the free zone at the Nassib border crossing between Syria and Jordan after missile debris fell in the area amid ongoing exchanges between Iran and Israel.

The SANA news agency said the blaze erupted after shrapnel from a missile struck the site, setting several vehicles on fire.

Civil defense teams were working to extinguish the fire, the outlet said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Regional escalation has continued to flare since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing so far around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
