3 soldiers killed in terrorist attacks in northeastern Syria: SANA news agency

Army accuses 'PKK terrorists, remnants of former regime' of hindering implementation of ceasefire deal with SDF

ISTANBUL

Three Syrian soldiers were killed and others injured "in attacks by PKK terrorists and remnants of the former regime," the military said on Monday.

The army’s Operations Command told the SANA news agency that "armed groups linked to the PKK terrorist movement and remnants of the former regime targeted troops deploying in northeastern Syria under a ceasefire and integration agreement between the government and the SDF group."

It did not specify where exactly the attacks occurred.

The command said "the PKK-linked terrorist groups and remnants of the former regime are trying to disrupt the implementation of the deal."

The Defense Ministry’s Media and Communications Department told SANA that “PKK terrorist militias planted several improvised explosive devices west of the town of al-Shaddadi in the southern countryside of al-Hasakah, causing two civilian vehicles to explode and injuring a number of people.”

On Sunday evening, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa announced a ceasefire and an agreement for the full integration of the SDF into state institutions.

Under the deal, the SDF will withdraw its military formations east of the Euphrates River and hand over administrative and security control of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor provinces to the Syrian state.

The agreement also provides for the integration of SDF military and security personnel into the Syrian ministries of defense and interior following individual security vetting, as well as the transfer of border crossings, oil and gas fields, and civilian institutions to government control.

The announcement followed a military operation launched by the Syrian Army, through which it regained wide areas in eastern and northeastern Syria after repeated violations by the SDF of earlier agreements signed with Damascus nearly a year ago.
