1 injured by missile shrapnel near Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem

Palestinian Red Crescent says one person was taken to hospital, with no details on their condition

JERUSALEM

One person was injured Friday after missile shrapnel fell near the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem, the Palestinian Red Crescent said.

In a statement, the aid group said its teams transported the injured person to hospital for treatment, without providing details on the person’s identity or condition.

An Anadolu correspondent reported that missile fragments also fell in the Jewish Quarter near Jerusalem’s Old City, amid heightened tension and a security alert in the area.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported that shrapnel landed in several locations across Jerusalem, with no immediate details available on the extent of the damage.

The incident came after air raid sirens sounded in the city, followed by two powerful explosions as missiles were launched from Iran, according to the correspondent.

Regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing so far some 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
