EU foreign policy chief visits Ukraine to mark 2022 Bucha events

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha receives visiting dignitaries in capital Kyiv

An EU delegation headed by foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas arrived Tuesday in Ukraine's capital Kyiv.

The delegation will participate in a ceremony commemorating the 2022 events in the city of Bucha, the Foreign Ministry said.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha received the delegation.

"Ukraine knows how to win. This visit is a sign of true courage and solidarity with Ukraine. I am grateful to EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and all the European colleagues who came to Ukraine today," Sybiha said on the US social media platform X.

Following Russia-Ukraine peace talks in 2022 in Istanbul, Russia announced it would withdraw its forces from the Kyiv region as a gesture of good will.

After the Russian army left the city of Bucha, on the outskirts of Kyiv, Ukrainian authorities claimed they found numerous bodies civilians on the streets, some with their hands tied, and accused Russia of killing them.

Russia denied these allegations, stating that its forces did not target civilians, suggesting that the incident was staged by Ukraine following their retreat.
