British far-right figure arrested over alleged assault at London train station

Social media video apparently shows far-right figure near man lying on ground at London's St. Pancras station

LONDON

Far-right British figure Tommy Robinson has been arrested over last week's alleged assault at a London train station, police said Monday.

Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was arrested at 6.30 pm (1730GMT) over a July 28 social media video apparently showing the far-right activist near a man lying on the ground at St. Pancras station

In a statement, British Transport Police (BTP) said: "Officers from BTP have tonight (4 August) arrested a 42-year-old man from Bedfordshire in connection to an assault at St Pancras station on 28 July."

"The man had been wanted for questioning after leaving the country to Tenerife (in Spain’s Canary Islands) in the early hours of 29 July following the incident at St Pancras," added the statement.

BTP said he was arrested "on suspicion of GBH (Grievous Bodily Harm)" and will now be taken to custody for questioning.

Robinson has a long criminal record, with convictions for multiple assaults, mortgage fraud, faking a passport, stalking, contempt of court, and various public order offenses.

Last year, he was jailed for 18 months for contempt of court for repeating false allegations against a Syrian refugee.
