Thai vessel attacked in Strait of Hormuz runs aground

Three crew members still missing as search continues

ISTANBUL

The Thai vessel attacked in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this month has reportedly run aground and authorities are still searching for the three missing crew members.

The Mayuree Naree is now aground on an Iranian island, Khalid M. Hashim, managing director of Precious Shipping Pcl, the ship’s owner, told Bloomberg on Friday.

The vessel ran aground on the coast of Qeshm Island and has been relocated to the northern coast of Larak Island, according to Iran’s Press TV.

The Mayuree Naree was hit near the stern while sailing in waters near Oman on March 11, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Twenty crew members jumped overboard and were rescued.

According to a tally by Anadolu, at least 25 people from Asian nations have either been killed or remain missing since the conflict began.

They include eight from India (including one missing), four from Bangladesh, four from Pakistan, and one each from China, Nepal, and the Philippines, while three each from Indonesia and Thailand are missing in waters around the Middle East.
