Indonesian President Prabowo kicks off maiden Pakistan visit

During 2-day stay, Probowo will hold talks with Pakistani Premier Shehbaz Sharif and others

KARACHI, Pakistan

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto kicked off his two-day official visit to Pakistan on Monday amid a wide-ranging agenda aimed at bolstering bilateral relations and cooperation, state-run Pakistan Television reported.

Accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising key ministers and senior officials, Prabowo was received by his Pakistani counterpart, Asif Ali Zardari, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Noor Khan air base, Rawalpindi.

This is Prabowo’s first visit to Pakistan since he took office last year. His predecessor, Joko Widodo, was the last Indonesian leader to visit Pakistan in 2018.

During his visit, Prabowo will hold delegation-level talks with Sharif as well as meet with Zardari, Gen. Asim Munir, the army chief, and the chief of the Defense Forces, according to a statement from Islamabad's Foreign Ministry.

The two sides will discuss a wide-ranging agenda aimed at further strengthening Pakistan-Indonesia relations and exploring new avenues of cooperation, including trade, investment, defense, health, IT, climate, education, and culture, as well as enhancing collaboration at regional and global levels.

Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit.

The visit also coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two most populous Muslim nations.

From January to October 2025, bilateral trade between Indonesia and Pakistan totaled $3.3 billion, with palm oil accounting for the majority of exports to the South Asian country.
