Drone strike kills 2, injures 14 in Ukraine’s Odesa region

Ukrainian officials say residential building struck in overnight Russian drone attack

ISTANBUL

A Russian drone strike on Ukraine’s Odesa region injured 14 people and killed two, Ukrainian authorities said Saturday.

Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa regional military administration, said six people remain in hospital, with three of them in serious condition. “The rest are receiving outpatient care,” he wrote on Telegram.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that 22 drones were involved in the attack, with air defense units shooting down 21, and one “neutralized” by electronic warfare systems. The Odesa region was identified as the main target.

In a statement, the State Emergency Service said a 21-story residential building was hit in Odesa, causing a fire on three upper floors. “People were trapped in their apartments,” it added.

Mayor of Odesa Hennadiy Trukhanov confirmed that the emergency crew found the bodies of a couple killed in the strike. “My sincere condolences to the family and loved ones,” he said on social media.

Odesa, a key Black Sea port city, has been repeatedly targeted during the conflict, with widespread use of drones in recent months.
