Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said Beijing will "always stand" with small- and medium-sized countries, during a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Amman.

"China will always stand with the Global South and with small and medium-sized countries, firmly safeguarding the common interests of the vast number of developing countries," and maintain its position as Jordan's "most reliable strategic partner in its development and revitalization process," Wang said, during the meeting on Monday, according to a statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Beijing "is a responsible major country that always adheres to the principle of equality among all countries, regardless of size, upholds the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs, supports all countries in pursuing development paths suited to their national conditions, and never imposes its will on others," he said.

King Abdullah said Jordan will promote further strengthening of high-level exchanges, practical cooperation, communication and coordination in global and regional affairs, "jointly addressing the turbulent international landscape, particularly the Middle East turmoil."

The two sides discussed enhancing cooperation in traditional areas such as trade, infrastructure, energy, defense, transportation, and justice, as well as exploring cooperation potential in new areas, including artificial intelligence and green energy, according to a joint press release.

Wang and King Abdullah also emphasized the need for "a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in Gaza" and for "urgent, immediate, and sustainable access to aid to address the humanitarian crisis."

They said that the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement should be combined with "genuine political efforts aimed at establishing a sovereign and independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with relevant UN resolutions."

Wang also met with Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.

"China is willing to continue providing support within its capacity for Jordan's economic and social development, import more high-quality Jordanian products, and encourage Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Jordan," Wang said.

He also noted that with the current situation in the Middle East being "complex and severe, with various conflicts intertwined," whether the region moves towards further escalation and confrontation or shifts to peace talks tests the choices and responsibilities of all parties.

"Achieving regional peace and stability is in the interest of all countries in the region and is what the people genuinely hope for," he said.

Safadi expressed Jordan's willingness to cooperate on various industries and sectors, noting Amman's support for the one-China principle.

China and Jordan established diplomatic ties in 1977, which was elevated into a strategic partnership in 2015.

In 2024, the bilateral trade volume reached $5.3 billion, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Wang concluded his three-nation tour with Jordan on Tuesday. He earlier paid an official visit to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
