China on Monday released version 2.0 of its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety Governance Framework to strengthen AI risk assessment, control, and safeguards to support the sector's steady growth, the Global Times reported, citing the China Cyberspace Administration.
Building on the original framework, which was launched in September 2024, version 2.0 incorporates recent AI advancements and addresses emerging risks by fine-tuning risk categories, grading strategies, and governance measures.
The updated framework, which is in line with global AI trends, encourages international cooperation, ethical standards, and the equitable distribution of AI benefits. It provides clearer guidance on risk classification and technological safeguards, as well as addressing secondary risks associated with AI applications.
Notably, four new governance measures were implemented to improve regulations through collaboration between developers, providers, users, regulators, and civil society. It also established principles for assessing AI risks and developing trustworthy AI.
