ISTANBUL
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Thursday that he remains a supporter of US President Donald Trump “despite certain mistakes” made by Washington.
His remarks came during a meeting with a US delegation led by special envoy John Cole at the Palace of Independence in the capital Minsk, the Belarusian presidential press service reported.
"I think my point of view on global issues, especially the situation in the Middle East, will be important to you, since you are at war with our friends. And I am ready to discuss this matter frankly," Lukashenko said.
He called on Cole to convey his point of view about the war in Iran to Trump.
"Despite certain mistakes, as I believe, made by the United States, I continue to be a supporter of your president," he said.
Earlier this month, Lukashenko called the US-Israeli attack on Iran “treacherous,” saying the deaths of “innocent civilians, especially children, were “unacceptable.”
The US and Israel have continued a joint offensive on Iran since Feb. 28, killing so far more than 1,200 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
