ISTANBUL (AA) - The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Monday following a request by Ukraine, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
Kyiv's request came "in the wake of Russia's recent attacks on Ukraine, which included the use of an intermediate-range ballistic missile," Sybiha said Saturday on US social media company X.
Moscow’s "flagrant breaches of the UN Charter" will be discussed during the meeting at 8 pm GMT, he stated, urging the Security Council members to show unity by calling for an end to the aggression, the protection of civilians, and continued support for Ukraine’s sovereignty.
"Russian attacks undermine international security and peace efforts by the United States, European states, and other partners," the top Ukrainian diplomat stated.
He also called on the global community to "act now" to step up pressure "on the aggressor," ensure accountability, and "restore a lasting peace."
Russia said it responded to what it called a Ukrainian “terrorist attack” on President Vladimir Putin’s residence in Novgorod on Dec. 29, 2025, by launching strikes on targets in Ukraine.
Sybiha denied any attack on Putin’s residence and said Kyiv had requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council after Russia used an Oreshnik-type missile against Ukraine.
