Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa met with US Special Envoy Tom Barrack in Damascus on Wednesday.

A presidential statement said Sharaa and Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani hosted Barrack and his team in the People’s Palace in the capital.

Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia in late 2024, ending the Baath Party regime, which had been in power since 1963.

A new transitional administration led by Sharaa was formed in Syria in January.
