Zelenskyy says 20-point plan with US ‘not final,’ awaits signals from talks in Russia

Ukrainian president says further work needed on draft

ISTANBUL

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday a 20-point plan developed by Ukrainian and American negotiators in Geneva and later refined in Florida is still incomplete, and Kyiv is awaiting signals from the US side following its meeting with Russian officials.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Irish Taoiseach Micheal Martin in Dublin, Zelenskyy said: "There are now 20 points that were worked out in Geneva, which were finalized in Florida. Some things still need to be worked out from what I saw.”

He said Ukraine expects immediate updates from the American delegation after its scheduled talks in Russia.

“There will be a meeting of the American delegation in Russia, we will wait for appropriate signals from them. They want to report to us immediately after their meeting. I think that future and next steps depend on these signals, whatever they are. The steps will change throughout the day, even, I think, hourly,” Zelenskyy said.

The US negotiating team, led by special envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner, arrived in Moscow earlier in the day for talks aimed at ending the war.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said President Vladimir Putin was to meet the two envoys after 5 pm Moscow time (1400GMT), with no other US officials present besides an interpreter.

He said the discussions would focus on a settlement of the conflict, including Washington’s latest proposals.
