BERLIN
There is evidence that the Syria's government is responsible for at least some of the delays in the destruction of their chemical weapons, a spokesperson for Germany's Foreign Minister said on Wednesday.
"We observe delays. There are different interpretations of the causes of these delays of the destruction of chemical weapons from the Syrian territory. There are some evidence that the Syrian government is responsible for this," said Martin Schafer at a government press conference.
He said Germany is interested in the destruction of chemical weapons in Syria and attaches great importance to the implementation of the international plan to neutralize the weapons.
Schafer said: "Our appeal applies to the government in Damascus. They must fulfill its obligation under international law and allow the chemical weapons out of the country according to the schedule."
The weapons are supposed to be destroyed on a U.S. ship in the Mediterranean Sea but Schafer said Syria's government's delays are stopping concrete decisions being made.
