CAPE TOWN, South Africa
Cape Town's International Convention Center hosted the World Economic Forum on Africa this week, highlighting youth unemployment, entrepreneurship, leadership and economic structures in Africa.
“One of the critical issues is energy infrastructure, because without energy, we would not be able to make progress," South African President Jacob Zuma told the World Economic Forum Friday. "Any wise investor will realize this is the moment to invest in the continent."
Zuma also said that without addressing the infrastructure challenge, it would be very difficult to grow the economy.
“We are building new, huge power stations as part of an effort to address the gaps in energy production,” Zuma said.
The South African President also called for financial institutions to invest in Africa without fear.
“We have created more clarity in terms of infrastructure,” he said. “We are talking about very specific projects.”
He went on to say that African leaders would support and stand as a guarantors for investment.
“I want to say investors should have no fear to come (to Africa),” Zuma said. “Investors must know this is the time to invest.”
“This is a win-win solution,” he said.
