Various events on Sunday were held across Serbia to mark the second anniversary of the coup attempt in Turkey.

An exhibition of Anadolu Agency photos on Thursday opened in Novi Sad city under the auspices of Turkey's Embassy in Belgrade and Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Ambassador Tanju Bilgic said that 251 people who were trying to defend democracy on the night of the coup attempt lost their lives and about 2,000 people were injured.

Bilgic also hailed Serbia's efforts to support Turkey for its fight against FETO terrorist organization.

On Friday, 251 seedlings were planted in Sjenica city for each of the martyrs of the defeated coup.

The event was organized by the Turkish Embassy in Serbia, in cooperation with TIKA and the Municipality of Sjenica.

Seedlings were planted by Turkish Ambassador to Serbia, Tanju Bilgic; President of the Municipality of Sjenica, Hazbo Mujovic; and Coordinator of TIKA, Cagla Gultekin Tosbat.

An event marking July 15, the day of Democracy and National Unity of Turkey, was held in Novi Pazar city.

Anadolu Agency's short videos of the defeated coup were shown at the event to highlight the brutality and acts of terrorism by FETO operatives, who martyred civilians, bombed the presidential palace, parliament and police headquarters.

Awards were given during a chess tournament and a football tournament organized to honor the victims of the coup attempt.

Sixty chess players participated in the chess tournament while four teams competed in the football tournament.

The award was presented by former Galatasaray goalkeeper Zoran Simovic.

A children's cycling race in capital Belgrade was held on Saturday morning as a sign of friendship between Serbia and Turkey.

FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016.

Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
