JERUSALEM

An Israeli court on Tuesday sentenced an Arab-Israeli youth to life in prison after convicting him earlier of killing an Israeli -- and injuring a second -- in a 2017 shooting attack.

“Israel’s Central Court of Haifa has sentenced 22-year-old Mohamed Shinawi to life behind bars,” the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported.

Shinawi, the broadcaster added, “was convicted of killing one Israeli -- and injuring another -- in a shooting attack in the city of Haifa in January of last year”.

An Arab-Israeli from Haifa, Shinawi and his family are members of the sizeable Palestinian minority who remained in the city following the establishment of Israel in 1948.
