The city of Istanbul is giving five buses, spare parts and tools to the north African nation of Sudan.

At the February meeting of the Istanbul City Council on Tuesday, a new request for buses from Sudan’s capital Khartoum was discussed. In June 2018, 10 buses had been donated to Khartoum.

Technical support, spare parts, tools and technical training will be provided by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), Turkey’s state-run aid agency.

During proceedings on the measure, council members from the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party said the buses would benefit the poverty-stricken Sudanese people.

Afterwards, the proposal for the donation of five buses was passed unanimously.
