Indonesia: Powerful quake shakes Bengkulu province

JAKARTA, Indonesia

No damage or casualties have been reported as a magnitude 6.5 earthquake shook Indonesia’s Bengkulu province on Wednesday night.

There is no danger of a tsunami, according to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The tremor was recorded at 7:52 p.m. local time (1252GMT), originating at a depth of 10 kilometers (six miles) at a point 80 kilometers (some 50 miles) southwest of Enggano island, the authority said.

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake was also recorded in Enggano a little over two hours earlier, the agency added.
