BEIJING (AA) - People's Republic of China has begun to celebrate the 64th anniversary of foundation day on Tuesday.
State officials attended formal celebration programs and placed a wreath at Tiananmen Square while many Chinese chose to take a vacation due to the 7-day-long national holiday.
Last year, state officials decided to unify national day and autumn holiday and created an 8-day-long national holiday. During that holiday, many Chinese flocked to railways so as to visit their families or take a vacation. This led to nine million passengers daily, a record number for China.
The Chinese Transportation Ministry expects 610 million people to travel during the national holiday and many are predicted to prefer railways.
