British and French jets were scrambled to the North Sea Thursday afternoon due to fears over Russian planes violating U.K. airspace, according to local media.
A Royal Air Force (RAF) jet and an Airbus tanker plane took off from near Northern English city of Newcastle and a French jet and a tanker pane joined them shortly after 3 p.m., Sky News reported.
The news channel said satellite images taken from AirLive showed the four planes over the North Sea but the RAF declined to comment on the operation.
After about half an hour, all planes started to return to their bases.
Nearly a month ago, two RAF fighter jets were scrambled from Romania to the Black Sea to deter two Russian Su-30s.
The RAF said the jets were sent to deter Russian aggression.
