RAMALLAH
Nine Palestinians were wounded, while scores of others suffered breathing difficulties late on Thursday in clashes with the Israeli army in different parts of the occupied West Bank, eyewitnesses said.
They said three Palestinians were wounded with live ammunition in confrontations with the Israeli army near Qalandia military checkpoint, which separates the two West Bank cities of Ramallah and Jerusalem.
The eyewitnesses added that the victims were immediately taken to Ramallah Medical Centre to receive treatment there.
Four more Palestinians were wounded with rubber bullets at the entrance to Ni'lin, a Palestinian town western Ramallah, the eyewitnesses said.
They added that scores of other Palestinians had breathing difficulties when Israeli soldiers fired teargas on them during the clashes in the two aforementioned areas.
A Palestinian man was also wounded with live ammunition during clashes with the Israeli army in Bethlehem, eyewitnesses said, describing the condition of the man as "critical".
One more Palestinian was wounded in the thigh with a rubber bullet during confrontations with the Israeli army in Abu Dis near the separation barrier in eastern Jerusalem.
These West Bank clashes coincide with an Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip. At least 90 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds injured in three days of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip as part of a military offensive – dubbed "Operation Protective Edge" – with the stated aim of ending rocket fire from Gaza.
Gaza-based resistance factions, meanwhile, have continued to fire rockets into Israel – without causing any fatalities thus far – in response to the unrelenting airstrikes.
