GAZA CITY, Palestine

Two young Palestinians on Thursday succumbed to injuries they sustained last week during the Great Return March along the Gaza border, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.

Ahmad Ali Moustafa Kattush, 23, was shot and injured by Israeli soldiers in the border area near the al-Bureij refugee camp in Gaza, ministry spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra said in a written statement.

“He became a martyr today,” he added.

In the West Bank, Mohand Abu Tahon, 21, also succumbed to injuries he sustained last week during clashes along the Gaza border.

Abu Tahon was transferred to the West Bank on Monday to receive medical treatment, according to the ministry.

Tension has mounted in the Palestinian territories since last December, when U.S. President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

On May 14, at least 65 Palestinian protesters in the eastern Gaza Strip were martyred -- and thousands more injured -- by Israeli army gunfire.
