A woman has died of the H1N1 swine flu virus in Turkey's northwestern province of Kocaeli, becoming the 34th person to have died of the malady in the country.
Officials from the Kocaeli local public health authority said on Wednesday the 42 year-old had died two days earlier at the Kocaeli Derince Training and Research Hospital after being taken to hospital on April 1 to be treated for pneumonia.
She also had chronic pulmonary disease and cardiac valve disorder, the statement added.
Turkish Health Minister Mehmet Muezzinoglu revealed on March 25 that at least 33 people have died in Turkey from swine flu since the start of the 2014-2015 flu season.
Nine people died from the virus in Istanbul, another seven in Samsun, while other deaths were reported in Erzurum, Sivas, Mersin and Canakkale.
Authorities define the flu season as running from October to April.
