ANKARA
Turkish Supreme Court elected Ali Alkan as its new president on Monday.
Alkan was elected on the first round of voting as the new president of Supreme Court, replacing Nazim Kaynak who retired on age limit.
Alkan, who is the chairman of the 13th law department, won 201 votes.
Other candidates Kemalettin Yuksel and Ahmet Ceylani Tugrul received 39 and 92 votes respectively.
Born in 1950 in Ankara, Alkan graduated from Ankara University's Law Department in 1973. He was elected as member to Supreme Court on May 26, 1997. He is married with one child.
