ANKARA (AA) - August 14, 2012 - The main opposition Republican People's Party's (CHP) request to hold an extraordinary session in parliament to discuss latest circumstances connected with terrorism, Syria and Iraq failed on Tuesday due to failure to meet one-third quorum.
124 lawmakers from CHP had made an application on August 6 for an extraordinary session in the parliament on August 14.
Parliamentary Deputy Speaker Sadik Yakut started the session at 15:00 and he gave 5-minute break for attendance.
Lawmakers from the CHP and the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party were in attendance, however, the ruling party, Justice and Development Party, and opposition Nationalist Movement Party were absent.
Following the counting of the attendance, there were no 184 lawmakers to meet one-third quorum to hold an urgent session in the parliament.
Sadik Yakut later on announced the failure and ended the session until October 1, 2012.
The CHP's move had came after attack on military outpost in the southeastern province of Hakkari by terrorist organization PKK on August 4. In the attack six Turkish soldiers and two village guards had been killed. 14 terrorists had also been killed in the ensuing clashes with security forces in the region.
