Istanbul police seize large amount of drug in operation

ISTANBUL

Some 115 kilogram of cocaine and heroin and more than half million opiate pills were seized in large-scale bust in Istanbul, security source said on Wednesday.

After receiving a tip-off, anti-drug police squad conducted raid in the northernmost Sariyer district of the city on Sunday, said the source who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

A total of 47 kg (103 pounds) of cocaine was confiscated at the operation.

They also seized 68 kg (150 pounds) of heroin and 550,000 opiate pills during the raid.

The police arrested two suspects and presented them before a court.

One of the suspect, identified by the initials O.K., was remanded in custody, while another suspect was released under judicial control.
