Turkish agency gives jobs to low-income Mexican women

ANKARA

The Turkish state aid agency has opened a pastry oven for low-income women in Mexico’s capital.

In a statement Monday, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) said that it opened the pizza and pastry oven in Iztapalapa, Mexico City to provide jobs for women with low income and to help them socioeconomically.

Iztapalapa is known for growing economical marginalization and poverty due to intense immigration from rural areas of Mexico, where public services fall short of demand.

TIKA opened the oven in the city with the cooperation of the Iztapalapa Municipality’s Social Development Department.

At the facility, over 60 women have gotten cookery and pastry training, as well as gender mainstreaming and human rights education by Insurgentes University.
