ANKARA
Turkey’s national football team reached the 13th spot in FIFA rankings by climbing seven places Thursday.
FIFA announced the world rankings on its official website Thursday.
Turkey beat Sweden and Austria 2-1 each in friendlies in March. It now has 983 points in the FIFA list.
It is Turkey's best spot since 2009 when the country was in the 10th place. Turkey's all-time best was fifth rank in June 2004.
Turkey's opponents in the UEFA Euro 2016 Group D, Spain, claimed sixth place; Croatia 23rd spot and Czech Republic 29th.
Argentina with 1,532 points tops FIFA rankings, thanks to its results in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying round.
The South American football giants snatched the number one spot from Belgium, who were on top of FIFA rankings for the last five months.
Chile is in the third spot.
The upcoming FIFA rankings will be announced on May 5.
