Venezuela's Rojas wins gold, sets new record in women's triple jump

ANKARA

Yulimar Rojas won Venezuela's first gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, setting a new world record in women's triple jump on Sunday.

Rojas jumped 15.67 meters when she took the last of her six attempts, to break a record set in 1995. The previous record was held by Inessa Kravetz of Ukraine with 15.50 meters.

Patricia Mamona of Portugal won silver medal with 15.01 meters, while Spanish Ana Peleteiro bagged bronze with 15.01 meters jump.

Rojas, 25, won world titles in 2017 and 2019 and a silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
