Gattuso leaves Fiorentina 3 weeks after hired as manager


Italian football club Fiorentina said on Thursday that their manager Gennaro Gattuso left his post, staying there less than a month.

Fiorentina said on Twitter that Gattuso, 43, left the Florence club on a mutual agreement.

Italian manager was hired as "La Viola" (the Purple One) boss on May 25 after leaving Napoli.

Napoli missed to qualify for the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League groups after finishing the Italian Serie A in the fifth spot with 77 points. They were battling with Juventus and Atalanta as these two clubs bagged 78 points each to reserve their places for the Champions League.

Meanwhile, the Italian media said that Gattuso left Fiorentina over disagreements with club management.

A former AC Milan midfielder, Gattuso is a well-known figure for his ambitious and aggressive character while playing the game.

Gattuso won the 2006 FIFA World Cup with Italy.

He also helped Milan win two Champions League titles in 2003 and 2007.

Gattuso was also the Italian champion with Milan twice in 2004 and 2011.

He retired from playing football in 2013.

As a manager, Gattuso led Napoli to win the 2020 Italian Cup.
