Bayern Munich’s manager Julian Nagelsmann has tested positive for COVID-19, the German club announced on Thursday.

Nagelsmann, 34, tested positive despite being fully vaccinated, said a club statement.

He traveled to Lisbon for his side’s UEFA Champions League fixture against Benfica, but did not attend Wednesday night’s match – won 4-0 by Bayern – as a precautionary measure because he was feeling unwell.

“He is returning to Munich separately from the team by air ambulance and will self-isolate at home,” read the statement.

Nagelsmann has enjoyed a good start since switching over to the German champions from RB Leipzig in July, clinching his first trophy with the German Super Cup win in August.
