PARIS
A French Foreign Ministry spokesperson has said a pledge by the Syrian government to join the Chemical Weapons Convention was "not enough", adding that the UN Security Council must adopt a resolution to enforce measures in case of non-compliance.
Philippe Lalliot France was committed to present a draft resolution to the Security Council. He said it was a must for the Security Council to issue a binding decision that would set a timetable.
Russia has said it was dead set against a draft resolution that would foresee military action in case Damascus failed to abide by a Russian proposal to put its chemical weapons stockpile under international control.
