US-Israeli strike hits gas tanks in southern Iran, halts output at 2 refineries: Iranian media

Reports say South Pars field in Asaluyeh targeted, forcing shutdown of facilities with major gas capacity

ISTANBUL

A US-Israeli airstrike hit gas storage tanks at Iran’s South Pars field in the southern city of Asaluyeh on Wednesday, halting production at two refineries with a combined capacity of about 100 million cubic meters per day, Iranian media reported.

According to the semi-official Fars News Agency, loud explosions were heard across multiple refinery sites in Asaluyeh following the attack.

The outlet said that several gas storage tanks and parts of the refinery infrastructure were targeted across different operational phases, including units three, four, five, and six.

The agency said employees were evacuated to safe areas, while firefighting and rescue teams were working to contain blazes triggered by the strike.

No immediate information was available on casualties or the full extent of the damage.

The attack came as the US and Israel have continued a joint offensive on Iran since Feb. 28, killing so far around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
