Israeli army has been carrying out offensive in northern occupied West Bank since Wednesday
RAMALLAH, Palestine/ISTANBUL
A Palestinian was injured Friday in an illegal Israeli settlers’ attack, while Israeli forces arrested another Palestinian after assaulting him, amid Israel’s offensive in the northern occupied West Bank.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said in a statement that its crews transferred Mohammed Dweikat, 29, from the village of Rujeib to the Rafidia Governmental Hospital after settlers beat him in the Jabal Rujeib area, east of Nablus.
In the town of Yabad, west of Jenin, Israeli forces arrested a young man after raiding his shop.
Sources told Anadolu that the detainee, whose shop was vandalized and who was assaulted before being arrested, is Nazmi Abu Bakr, 25, a former prisoner.
Since Wednesday, the Israeli army has been carrying out an offensive in the northern occupied West Bank, particularly in Jenin and Tubas, as part of an escalation that has persisted in the territory for more than two years.
Alongside the two-year war in the Gaza Strip, where nearly 70,000 victims have been killed, assaults by the army and illegal settlers in the West Bank have killed at least 1,085 Palestinians and injured 11,000, while more than 20,500 have been detained, according to official Palestinian figures.
In a landmark opinion last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and urged the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
