Iran suspended train services on key railway lines in Mashhad and Khuzestan provinces on Tuesday following Israeli warnings of attacks on infrastructure, according to Iranian media.
Mehr News Agency, citing local officials, said all train services on the Mashhad railway line have been canceled “until further notice.”
The governor of Mashhad said the decision was taken “based on the unethical warning from the Zionist entity (Israel)” and in the interest of public safety.
In southern Iran, a deputy governor of Khuzestan said train operations on the South and Zagros railway lines have also been suspended for the same reason.
The move came hours after the Israeli army warned Iranians not to travel by train and avoid train stations across the country.
Regional escalations have continued to rage since Israel and the US launched an offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian authorities have not updated the toll in recent days.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
