Eric Cantona shares jersey of refugee camp team to benefit Palestine

French football legend wears jersey of Lajee Celtic Club in Israeli-occupied West Bank

ISTANBUL

French football legend Eric Cantona has voiced his support for a campaign backing a team based in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Cantona, 59, shared a post on Instagram wearing the jersey of Lajee Celtic Club, a team from the Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem, in the southern occupied West Bank.

In his post, Cantona noted that the aid campaign was launched by Celtic fan groups in Scotland, with proceeds from jersey sales going to support Palestinian refugees.

At least 1,047 Palestinians have been killed and more than 10,000 injured in the West Bank by Israeli forces and illegal settlers since October 2023, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

In a landmark opinion last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
