Another Palestinian dies in Israeli detention

JERUSALEM / ISTANBUL

Another Palestinian detainee died in Israeli detention on Thursday, local media reported.

Hassan Issa al-Qasha’leh, from the city of Rahat in the Negev, died inside Beersheba Prison in southern Israel, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

The agency said al-Qasha’leh had been held in Israeli detention for more than 13 months and was scheduled to be released in six months.

The Israeli Prison Service earlier reported the death of a Palestinian detainee held administratively, without naming him.

Many Palestinian human rights organizations have warned that thousands of Palestinian prisoners are held in harsh conditions amid systematic violations, including torture, starvation, and physical and sexual assaults, resulting in numerous deaths.

Palestinian authorities estimate that more than 9,300 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons, including more than 50 women and about 350 children, in addition to those kept in Israeli army camps.
